Simple Danish Cream Cheese Puffs topcook.tomathouse.com
Ingredients:
- 1 package (500g) frozen puff pastry, thawed
- 1 large egg + 1 yolk
- 220 g cream cheese, softened
- 3 tbsp sugar + extra for sprinkling
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
Preparation:
- Preheat oven to 200°C. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a small bowl, beat the egg with 1 teaspoon water; set aside.
- In a medium bowl, beat the egg yolk, cream cheese, sugar, lemon juice, and vanilla extract with a mixer on medium speed until smooth.
- Place 2 sheets of puff pastry on a work surface and cut each into 4 squares. Fold the corners of the squares inward about 2 cm to form an octagon. Spoon the cheese mixture evenly into the center of each octagon (about 2 tablespoons); do not spread it. Brush the exposed areas of the dough with the egg mixture and sprinkle generously with sugar.
- Bake until the buns are puffy and golden brown, about 18 minutes. Cool slightly before serving.
